Unlocking Your Overseas Wealth: A Simple Guide to the New Foreign Assets Information Portal

The Income Tax Department has rolled out an important update to help taxpayers track their global finances. As part of the newly introduced Foreign Assets of Small Taxpayers Disclosure Scheme (FAST-DS 2026), eligible taxpayers can now easily access and review their foreign financial information. Gathered from foreign countries under an international information exchange framework, this new initiative is designed to boost transparency and make voluntary tax compliance easier than ever.

Privacy First

Securely Accessing Your Data Because your foreign account details are highly sensitive, the tax department has implemented strict confidentiality standards. You will not see your financial data openly displayed on the website screen. Instead, after logging into the e-filing portal and navigating to the “Reports” tab on the AIS Compliance Portal, you must securely download a password-protected PDF. To unlock this file, simply use your PAN (in lowercase letters) followed immediately by your date of birth in the DDMMYYYY format.

What’s Inside the Report?

The detailed PDF provides a comprehensive look at your overseas assets, offering year-wise data starting from Calendar Year (CY) 2022. Every entry is assigned a unique Transaction Sequence Number (TSN) to help you easily identify individual records. The report details the name of the reporting foreign financial institution, your specific bank account number, and the foreign currency used. To make things perfectly clear, the statement breaks down your account balances—such as dividends, interest, gross proceeds, and other payments—and also provides the equivalent values converted into Indian Rupees (INR).

Spot a Mistake? You Can Have Your Say!

The government knows that data is sometimes reported incorrectly, so they have included a straightforward feedback mechanism. Once you download your PDF, the “Submit Feedback” option is unlocked on the portal. By entering the specific TSN from your document, you can review each line item (like your account balance or interest) and tell the department if the information is “correct,” “incorrect,” “partially correct,” or if it “does not pertain to me”. After providing your remarks, you can submit your feedback and instantly download an acknowledgement receipt to keep for your records.
