Attention GST Taxpayers: GSTAT Appeals filing deadline extended!

On June 30, 2026, the Government of India’s Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) issued a crucial notification regarding the timelines for filing appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). This new directive supersedes the previous notification from September 17, 2025, and brings much-needed clarity for taxpayers preparing to contest past orders.

According to the latest government update, the general deadline for filing older appeals has been set for July 31, 2026. The notification outlines two specific scenarios for taxpayers:

  • General Appeals: If the order you wish to appeal was communicated to you before May 1, 2026, you have until the July 31, 2026 deadline to file your appeal. For any orders communicated to you on or after May 1, 2026, your appeal must be filed within the standard timeframe of three months from the date you received the communication.
  • Specific Applications (under sub-section 3 of Section 112): If the order in question was passed before February 1, 2026, the deadline to file is also July 31, 2026. However, for orders passed on or after February 1, 2026, applications must be filed within six months from the date the order was passed.

Taxpayers are encouraged to review the dates of their relevant orders to ensure compliance with these new cut-offs.
